PICTURES REFRAMED MOVES INTO ITS FINAL WEEKEND!

Just three more performances of Pictures Reframed to go before Christmas - tonight Leif Ove is in Stavanger, tomorrow in Oslo and on 20th December in Cologne. The tour has been a huge success and following the Paris performance all 50 available deluxe books were sold at the post concert signing. Both WDR and Arte TV have broadcast news features in advance of the Cologne concert and Norwegian TV broadcast both the documentary and the filmed concert from Risør last weekend in advance of the Stavanger and Oslo performances generating a further spurt of interest. BRUSSELS HAILS PICTURES REFRAMED AS ONE OF THE "ARTISTIC SENSATIONS OF 2009"

At last! Pictures Reframed has arrived in Europe and was greeted in Brussels on Tuesday night with a full and rapturous house. The 2000 seater art deco hall was packed to the gills and a revered silence was sustained throughout the concert breaking into immediate applause as Leif Ove Andsnes was joined on the stage by Robin Rhode at the end. In the days running up to the premiere the Belgian press had shown their committment to the project with Vif writing “This unexpected clash is already one of the artistic sensations of 2009" and Knack commenting “If we had to keep one recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures for eternity, then let it be the one by Andsnes. Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times writes, "The remarkable Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes is a self-effacing, substantive and completely unflashy artist. You would not peg him as someone curious to explore multimedia and reinvent the piano recital. Yet several years ago Mr. Andsnes approached Jane Moss, the vice president for programming at Lincoln Center, to propose collaborating with a visual artist on a performance of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Ms. Moss embraced the idea as being ideal for New Visions, part of the Great Performers series. It could be one of the most disturbing images in classical music since Charlotte Moorman played the cello in the nude and brought out the New York City vice squad. Video footage of a black grand piano under tons of water in a Bergen dry dock isn't going to result in indecent exposure charges against Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and South African artist Robin Rhode, which is what happened to Moorman in 1967 when she played in the buff for Nam June Paik's "Opera Sextronique." In 2007 Leif Ove Andsnes was filmed playing Grieg on a grand piano perched at the top of a mountain. In March 2009 the same piano was lowered into a disused shipyard in Bergen and Leif Ove played Mussorgsky as water flooded in. As water continued to pour in Leif Ove had to abandon the piano as it disappeared under a foam of water... Read More
